    Hall of Fame for Tarkanian
    Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Famer (Class of 1998) Coach Jerry Tarkanian will enter the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 8th, 2013. Tarkanian led UNLV to the national title in 1990 and also took the Runnin' Rebels to the Final Four in 1977, 1987 and 1991. He finished his career with a 729-201 record.

  • This Month in Southern Nevada Sports History

    April 1983

    The Las Vegas Stars (now the Las Vegas 51's) will celebrate 30 years of baseball on April 10th, 2013. The Stars played their first game on April 10, 1983 in front of 10,622 fans at Cashman Field. The Stars, in their brown, gold and burnt orange uniforms, defeated Salt Lake City, 11-8. Catcher Bruce Bochy, former San Diego Padres manager and current skipper of the San Francisco Giants, hit the first home run in Cashman Field history. The first pitch was delivered by right-hander Andy Hawkins.

Our Hall of Fame seeks to pass on the values to succeed to the next generation of young men and women, supporting community outreach programs and contributing scholarship programs that promote diversity, education, and the discipline and perseverance necessary to succeed both in sports and in life.The Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame has evolved into what has become a time-honored evening to recognize a select group of individuals who, through their dedication and commitment to sport, have become giants in our community. All proceeds from the event will be donated to various scholarship funds, youth groups, and community outreach projects in Southern Nevada.

The Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame announced their 2013 Induction class at a press conference at Las Vegas City Hall. From left to right: Chris Powell, Larry Keever (representing his daughter Stephanie Louden), Dana White, and Pat Christenson. Not pictured are Andre Agassi, and Bill Bobier (deceased). The day of festivities will kick off on May 31st with a golf tournament and the evening ceremonies will be at The Orleans Arena.
