Mike Maddux - Inducted 2002

Biography:

Mike Maddux completed a major league pitching career that spanned 15 seasons. He played for nine different major league teams, including the 2000 Astros. His career also included stints with the Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Mets, Pirates, Red Sox, Mariners and Expos. His best season was in 1991as a reliever for the Sand Diego Padres, when he was co-leader on the staff with 64 appearances. He also registered a career-best seven victories and 2.46 ERA, along with five saves.
Maddux is still very involved in the Las Vegas Community. Maddux founded the Maddux Foundation in October 2000 to help under-privileged children receive dental and vision care.
“The Maddux Foundation works to support the underserved youth of Southern Nevada,” Maddux said. “We recognize and are committed to Southern Nevada’s most valuable resource, our children.”
Maddux didn’t just lend his name to the tournament. He purchased toothbrushes and toothpaste and hand delivered them to schools with a high concentration of children in need.
Mike went on to spend 6 seasons as the pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers and is now the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers.

Claim to Fame: A match up against younger brother Greg highlighted Maddux’s major league season in 1986 and the Chicago Cubs on September 29, a game won by the Cubs, 8-3. It marked the first time in major league history that rookie brothers had ever opposed each other as pitching counterparts.
